LEBANON’S LAMENT

LEBANON’S LAMENT

Do pity the fallen angel
Grace has abandoned him
Flawless wings snipped from his back
Fooled by lust scandal and sin
The cherubs were all invited
The motherless children exited
And as they flew they gracefully dipped
Letting each mortal in
Rising upward the wailing goes under
Nothing comforts a waterless thunder that is scorched
Falling downward the crying goes nowhere
And the faithful feel nothing but despair
As they wait for a sign from a burning torch.
The music from heavenly choirs
Has turned to a dissonant mire
Moans and groans and turbulent roars
Saddle the chariot rider
The seraphs were all in thrust
Motored by a sacred trust
But as they flew they clumsily tripped
Over Satan’s provider
Moving skyward the praying goes soaring
Yet the Father is mumbling and snoring from His port.
Slipping sideways the fires come roaring
Yet damned Lucifer finds it quite boring
As he waits for a sign from his hell-ridden court
The angels begin to pronounce
His doctrine and creeds
The crowd is about to denounce
The purgatory and life’s dismal story
And Jesus Christ’s glory
It’s all turned to weeds.
Woe to sweet Lebanon
All of the Maronite Christians are gone.
Do pity the fallen angel
Grace has abandoned him
Flawless wings snipped from his back
Fooled by lust scandal and sin
The cherubs were all invited
The motherless children exited
Hot ice is stinging the tongue
Of all of the floundering young
And cold fires have extinguished
Any optimism to be sung.
Bleeding rosaries count out the prayers
As the hopeless send up a flare yet clouds are still coming
Leaving holy leafs on Passion Sunday
Yet the statues are all cloaked past Monday
As the moon crossed the sun
And the ominous crowd is still humming
Woe to sweet Lebanon
All of the Maronite Christians are gone.
