AT THE COUNTY FAIR

AT THE COUNTY FAIR

I’ve got a bushel and a peck
I got the ribbon ‘round her neck
Yes, My lamb has won first prize
There’s a twinkle in my eyes.
I’ve got a ticket for a ride
Goin’ to take the torture slide
It’s a wonder not to be compared
It’s the Dutchess County Fair.
Kick off my shoes
Call the general we need some booze
If she’s only got groceries
Then we’ll call up Farmer Greig
The chicken’s squawk
Ol’ Rover says he has to bark
The rhythm of life has got me hooked
I start jumpin’ on one leg.
I’ve got a bushel and a peck
I got the ribbon ‘round her neck
Yes, My lamb has won first prize
There’s a tinkle in my eyes.
Then Rafael’s Talent Show
We have an audience and they won’t go
Then it’s off to ol’ Syracuse
Where we sing and play the blues.
I hear some talk
Such a pretty day for a walk
So we merry down a country road
With the croaking of a toad
Then we return to where we came
Cook up a barbecue and play some games
It’s a wonder not to be compared
It’s the Dutchess County Fair.
Such an exhibition I’ve never seen
Got my cotton candy and Nanny’s backed beans
Ev’ry summer is filled with this wonderama
Country music for sis and mama
Guitars are pickin’ fabulously
The fiddle is crankin’ out melodies
The square dance begins at eight o’clock sharp
Dosey doe till the morning lark!
We sing as sweetly as Dolly Parton
My what a festival we’ve been startin’
Then when the constable says to quit
We’ll just give him a bit
Of that magical wonder stick
He’ll laugh and join us till the tent comes down
Then we’ll shed a big tear
We’ll have to wait till next year
I will hold this mem’ry so dear
I’ve got a bushel and a peck
I got the ribbon ‘round her neck
Yes, My lamb has won first prize
There’s a twinkle in my eyes.
I’ve got a ticket for a ride
Goin’ to take the torture slide
It’s a wonder not to be compared
It’s the Dutchess County Fair.
